Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina has asked the government to
allocate security officers to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as
required by the law.
The woman rep raised concerns about the recent attacks meted
out on the former DP, saying it is time for the state to act swiftly by
providing officers to safeguard him.
MP Njeri also reiterated the need to allow the former DP to
visit various parts of the country freely, without intimidation or threats of
attacks.
“Former DP Rigathi Gachagua must be given his security. It
is very disappointing that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would be
attacked during a church service! He must be allowed by the state to roam the
country freely!” she said.
“When President Ruto visited Kirinyaga County, nobody showed
violence. There were no goons at all!”
The first-term MP added that as the country heads to the 2027 polls, participants should be willing to concede defeat once declared losers.
She said the country’s peace can only be guaranteed if
leaders put aside their interests and put the nation first.
The MP was speaking during the launch of the Tupange Kesho 2025 Programme held at
Kutus Primary School in Kirinyaga County.
Under the programme, Sh36 million has been allocated to
boost the lives of residents, especially school-going children.
“As a firm believer that no child should be left behind, we
have allocated Sh9.65 million to bursaries across two academic years. This way,
hundreds of students have been shielded from the burden of school fees,” MP
Njeri said.
“These funds ensure learning continuity—each shilling
unlocking a pathway to potential. We are complementing this with Sh721,000 to
support scholarships, offering deserving students not just assistance, but
recognition and motivation to dream even bigger.”
MP Njeri has also rolled out the distribution of 5,000-litre
water tanks to 20 institutions, at a cost of Sh1.08 million, in response to the
pressing need for water access in schools.
To boost dignity and inclusion, Sh3.05 million has been used
to provide 578 students with dignity kits to support their right to health,
comfort, and self-esteem.
The woman rep also distributed Sh6.28 million worth of tents
and chairs to 40 community groups, which will be used for public dialogues,
celebrations, and grassroots mobilisation.
“In a deliberate effort to promote skills development and
self-reliance, 100 students have benefited from TVET sponsorships totalling
Sh3.8 million,” MP Njeri said.
“These are more than vocational opportunities—they’re doors to employment, innovation, and independence, particularly for young people in need of a second chance.”
Through the Women Economic Empowerment programme, 38 women’s
groups have received Sh3.8 million to help them build businesses, support their
families, and strengthen household incomes.
A further Sh4.7 million supports 46 groups through value
addition initiatives—enhancing productivity and revitalising local economies.
To ensure communities are not just recipients of change but active participants, Sh1.9 million has been invested in civic education.
