Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced several measures to accommodate increased visitor numbers while ensuring safety and conservation across national parks and reserves this Easter holiday.

This year's preparations coincide with the launch of the "Easter Moto Moto in Kenya Parks" campaign, designed to boost domestic tourism through incentives and operational enhancements.

KWS said all parks will maintain their standard operating hours from 6am to 6pm, with additional staff deployed at major entry points and high-traffic areas to facilitate smooth visitor management.

“Infrastructure maintenance teams have conducted thorough inspections and repairs of road networks and visitor facilities to ensure optimal conditions throughout the holiday period from April 18-27, 2025,” it said.

In a statement, KWS also announced increased patrols and closer collaboration with national law enforcement agencies to enhance security.

“This multi-agency approach aims to deter illegal activities while ensuring rapid response capabilities for any emergencies that may arise. Visitors will notice enhanced presence of park personnel who will be enforcing regulations regarding wildlife proximity, designated routes, and speed limits - measures critical to both visitor safety and wildlife protection,” it added.

KWS said registered tour operators bringing groups of 10 domestic tourists will benefit from a complimentary entry pass under the “Easter Moto Moto” campaign.

“Accommodation options within the parks have been made more accessible through a 10 per cent discount on stays at Mbugani Home for bookings made between April 18 and 27, with the offer extending through June 30, 2025,” KWS added.

The agency added that a special recognition program will reward the first domestic visitors at 10 selected parks, including Meru National Park and Shimba Hills National Reserve, with daily gifts during the first five days of the campaign.

“In the Nairobi National Park, a complimentary shuttle service will operate from Good Friday through Easter Monday to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility for visitors.”

KWS advised visitors to make advance bookings through the eCitizen KWS portal- kws.ecitizen.go.ke -- to avoid processing delays at park gates, particularly during peak visitation days.
