Police in Kisumu East are on the hunt for a man accused of viciously attacking his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, leaving her with life-threatening injuries after stabbing her on the left ear and chest.
The suspect is said to have been in a jealous rage after she left him for another man, leading to the tragic event.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect is reported to have stormed into his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend’s house in Nyakbong' village, Kamjulu, at approximately 4:45 pm on Friday.
Preliminary police reports indicate the suspect found the woman alone and launched a brutal attack, stabbing her twice, once on her left ear and again in the chest—using a sharp object believed to be a knife.
“Thanks to the quick response of neighbours who heard her scream and rushed to the scene, forcing the assailant to flee before confirming the worst,” the security agency said.
The woman, who was bleeding heavily from the wounds, was immediately rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The security agency has said the medical personnel are working around the clock to save her life.
According to witnesses, the attack appears to have been premeditated.
Neighbours told police that he had not come to terms with being left by the woman, who had moved on with a new partner.
Fueled by jealousy and resentment, he is said to have ambushed her while she was alone, taking advantage of the quiet afternoon to strike.
Police have since launched a manhunt to locate the suspect in joint efforts with the locals.
As the victim continues to battle for her life, police said
they remain determined to bring the suspect to justice.
The Kisumu East stabbing incident follows closely another disturbing case in Baringo County, where police are investigating the brutal murder of a 32-year-old woman, allegedly killed by her ex-husband for moving on with another man last month.
The victim was found dead with deep head wounds outside her current boyfriend's rented house in Saos, Baringo county, barely an hour after she was last seen heading there.
Eldama Ravine police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who fled the scene and remains at large as detectives from DCI Koibatek pursue leads.
