Kenya Kwanza allies will on April 27 hold two major harambees in Kisii and Eldoret as they intensify public donations.
The MPs, including high-profile lawmakers from the ruling alliance, have been split into two teams, with some appearing at both harambees in Marani, Kisii County, and Kapseret, Eldoret.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah will feature in both events, which are likely to witness huge donations.
President William Ruto’s influential aide, Farouk Kibet, will also participate in the two fundraisers — the latest in a string of public harambees by the Kenya Kwanza brigade.
The events aim to support ACK Tumaini Church in Sudi’s Kapseret backyard and Marani Catholic Parish in UDA National Treasurer Japhet Nyakundi’s Kitutu Chache North Constituency.
In Eldoret, at least six governors, including Kakamega’s Fernandes Barasa, will be present alongside Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), Stephen Sang (Nandi), Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet), Eric Mutai (Kericho), and Turkana’s Jeremiah Lomurkai.
According to a poster shared on Sudi's verified X account, Education PS Julius Bitok and Immigration PS Belio Kipsang will also attend the event.
The Kisii harambee has been billed as a strategic move to counter former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s growing political influence.
The event will be hosted by Nyakundi, marking the latest in a series of high-profile fundraisers organised by influential Kenya Kwanza leaders across the country.
“This Sunday, 27th April 2025, I will be hosting a Mega Funds Drive in support of Marani Catholic Parish, in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Kisii County,” read a notice by Nyakundi.
“This special event will bring together distinguished national leaders and friends of our constituency. Our shared goal is to support meaningful development initiatives that uplift and empower our community.”
This is the first major Kenya Kwanza-led harambee in the Kisii region and comes amid increasing signs of looming political realignments, as Matiang’i’s influence gains momentum.
At least 30 MPs allied to the ruling coalition are expected to attend, including Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar.
In a show of political strength, Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, and National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro are also among the key guests.
Other notable attendees include Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, both known for their prominent contributions at fundraisers.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, another key UDA figure, confirmed to the Star that he will be in Marani for the harambee.
