In Courts
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu will be back in
court today for directions in a case where he is seeking to be released from
prison on bond.
Waititu was in February jailed for 12 years by an
anticorruption chief magistrate court after being found guilty in a graft case.
The court handed him an alternative fine of Sh53 million.
Waititu, who is being held at Kamiti Maximum Prison, has asked
the High Court to release him on bond pending the hearing and determination of
his appeal.
An initial bid for bond was dismissed by Justice Lucy
Njuguna on March 3.
However, Waititu, through lawyer Kibe Mungai sought to amend
his pleadings for bond in a fresh bid to get out of prison.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, through counsel Vincent
Monda, has however, opposed that bid.
Justice Njuguna last week allowed Waititu to amend his
application and directed parties to file and serve their arguments ahead of
today’s mention.
Elsewhere in the criminal court, the murder case against
renowned ex-Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder Collins Okoth alias Gatuso
is coming up for hearing of his application to be released on bond.
Gatuso was last year charged alongside Sylvia Aoko Odhiambo
with the murder of a three-year-old girl in Lucky Summer Estate in Nairobi in
April.
They both denied the charges before Justice Alexander
Muteti. Judge Muteti will today hear their arguments to be released on bond as
the case is heard.
