The late constable Hassan Moyo in a past event./FILEA police officer collapsed and died shortly after the Madaraka Day parade in Wajir East Sub-County, Wajir County.
Police Constable Hassan Moyo collapsed at around 9:05 am after participating in the parade march-past at Wajir Stadium, police said.
He was immediately rushed to Wajir County Referral Hospital, where medical personnel attempted to resuscitate him.
However, he was pronounced dead at around 10:00 am, officials said.
A preliminary medical assessment indicated that the officer died of a myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Officials said further administrative and medical procedures are expected to follow, including formal post-mortem documentation as per protocol.
Moyo was attached to a local tactical unit and was among the security personnel who participated in the event.
The event was attended by hundreds of locals and other officials, including President William Ruto.
Meanwhile, police in Gatundu North Sub-County, Kiambu County, have launched investigations into the death of a man who succumbed to injuries under unclear circumstances, in a case being treated as a suspected murder.
Nelson Njuguna Muturi was initially found lying by the roadside opposite Ndekei Primary School, with blood oozing from his nose, mouth, and ears.
Family members rushed him to Ngorongo Health Centre, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
However, when relatives checked on him the following day, they found him at his home in a weak and unresponsive condition.
He was immediately taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital for further medical attention but succumbed to his injuries.
The body was transferred to General Kago Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the injuries and subsequent death as detectives seek to establish whether foul play was involved.
Elsewhere, police in Mathioya Sub-County, Murang’a County, have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 76-year-old man whose body was found on a farm near his home.
The body was discovered lying on a farm in Kangui Village, Kambara Sub-location.
Police visited the scene and identified the deceased as Leonard Kimani Kamiri, who lived alone.
Police said the body was discovered a few metres from his house by his son, Julius Maina, who had visited his father’s homestead after attending a neighbour’s burial ceremony.
Investigators noted that the deceased had visible injuries to the back, head, and left leg, as well as a broken right arm near the shoulder, raising suspicion of a violent attack.
The scene was processed, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
