Crime sceneDetectives are investigating a chilling murder after the body of a man with his hands and legs tied was discovered submerged in a water well in Makueni County.
The grim discovery was made in Mtito Andei, Kibwezi Sub-County, after a herder grazing goats noticed blood stains and followed the trail to a nearby well. What he found triggered a police investigation into what authorities suspect was a brutal killing.
According to police, the herder spotted a pink-and-black nylon canvas sheet and a car mat floating inside the well. He alerted members of the public, who in turn informed authorities.
Investigators pumped water out of the well before making the shocking discovery of a human body hidden beneath the surface.
Police said the deceased, believed to be a man aged about 40 years, had both his hands and legs tied.
The body also bore multiple head injuries, raising suspicions that the victim was assaulted before being dumped in the well.
Members of the public assisted officers in retrieving the body, which was later moved to Kambu Sub-County Hospital Mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have launched a murder investigation and are working to establish the identity of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding his death and the motive behind the killing.
In a separate incident in Kwale County, police are investigating the murder of an 86-year-old man who was found stabbed to death inside his house.
The victim, identified as Mlala Chilo Ruwa, was discovered dead in his single-room house in the Ndavaya area of Kinango Sub-County on Sunday morning.
Police said family members raised the alarm, prompting a report at Ndavaya Police Station at about 10 am.
Investigators believe the elderly man may have been attacked while asleep sometime during the night or in the early hours of the morning.
Officers who visited the scene found his body lying on a mat on the floor of the house, which reportedly had no lockable door.
A preliminary examination revealed a severe stab wound on the left side of his abdomen.
Police documented the scene and immediately launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
A 52-year-old man has since been arrested to assist detectives with their inquiries.
According to police, family members told investigators that the suspect had been involved in a long-standing land dispute with the deceased.
The body was moved to Kinango Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Police said investigations into both killings are ongoing as detectives seek to establish the full circumstances behind the deaths.
