Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital has announced a vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), offering a three-year renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance.
The hospital, Kenya's premier mental health referral facility, is seeking a visionary leader to provide strategic direction and oversee its operations under vacancy reference number MNTRH/CEO/01/2025.
The successful candidate will serve as the hospital's Accounting Officer and will be responsible for implementing Board decisions, ensuring compliance with government policies and regulations, and upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
Among the key responsibilities will be providing strategic leadership, overseeing the implementation of work plans and budgets, guiding the Board and management on corporate governance matters, and spearheading the development and execution of hospital policies and programmes.
The CEO will also represent the institution in engagements with stakeholders, oversee the management of human, financial and physical resources, promote a culture of integrity and performance excellence, mobilise resources, build strategic partnerships, and champion leadership development and succession planning.
To qualify, applicants must possess at least 15 years of relevant work experience, including 10 years in senior management positions in either the public or private sector.

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery or another recognised health profession, as well as a master's degree in a health-related field. Additional qualifications in Business Administration or Management will be an added advantage.
Applicants must also be registered with the relevant professional body, possess a valid practising licence and demonstrate proficiency in computer applications.
"Applicants must demonstrate a clear understanding of local, national and international laws, policies and regulatory frameworks governing the health sector, Public Finance Management and Public Procurement procedures."
In addition, candidates must have "Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010".
Mathari is seeking a leader with strong leadership and people management skills, integrity, resource mobilisation capabilities, innovative thinking and excellent communication skills.
The ideal candidate should also demonstrate sound judgment, analytical ability, decision-making skills and a passion for advancing mental healthcare services.
Interested applicants are required to submit a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic and professional certificates, a copy of their national identity card or passport, and contacts of three referees.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
