Police in Mlolongo, Machakos County, are investigating an incident where a man fled after an alleged stabbing involving his wife using a kitchen knife on Thursday.
The man is said to have caused fatal injuries to the 35-year-old woman at their rented single-room house at Mlolongo Phase Three estate in Athi River Sub-County for unknown reasons.
Athi River East Subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae said the matter was reported to Mlolongo police station as a suspected homicide report.
"It occurred on 18/06/2026 at around morning hours and was reported by one of the deceased's relatives that the woman aged 35, was found lying in a pool of blood in her shop at Mlolongo Phase 3 area. Police visited the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut wound on the head and a piece of cloth tied around her neck," Mbae told the Star on Friday.
Mbae said police documented the scene and removed the body to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
The case is pending under investigation before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Mlolongo to determine the motive behind her death. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the suspect.
We appeal to any person who has any information which can assist in the police investigation to do so. All information given will be treated with confidentiality," Mbae said.
Independent sources, who requested not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the man is reported to have locked the door from outside after the alleged incident took place.
When the children returned from school, they found the door closed and went to their aunt's house nearby, the source said.
She later called the suspect, who told her where he had kept the door keys.
The aunt directed the children to where their father had said the key was. The elder boy picked the keys, opened the door and stumbled on their mother's body.
The boy has a sibling, also a boy in Grade 3. Both are learners in schools within Mlolongo Township.
The man is said to have switched off his phone after talking to his children's aunt.
