On the Radar
The Kenya Media Sector Working Group (KMSWG) will issue a statement addressing the severe, coordinated, and escalating threats against journalists in Kenya and the East African region.
In recent months, the media space has witnessed an alarming rise in unpunished police brutality, the weaponisation of hired thugs/goons targeting frontline journalists, and open hostility from state actors.
This dangerous environment has led to a precipitous drop in Kenya’s global press freedom ranking and left victims with life-altering injuries and no justice.
The briefing will outline collective demands for accountability from the various stakeholders, compensation for injured journalists, justice for murdered colleagues, and a zero-tolerance policy for violence ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Kenya Media Sector Working Group (KMSWG) is a coalition of key media stakeholders, including the Kenya Editors' Guild, Kenya Union of Journalists, and the Media Council of Kenya.
The briefing will be held at Heron Hotel, Milimani, Nairobi at 10 am
