The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has introduced instant placement for Form Four leavers applying for university admission during the ongoing late application window.
KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome said the new arrangement is intended to give qualified students who missed earlier placement opportunities a second chance to secure admission to degree programmes.
Wahome announced the initiative during a sensitisation forum at Uriri High School in Migori County, where she was joined by Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) CEO Geoffrey Monari, Universities Fund acting CEO Edwin Wanyonyi, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and other education officials.
She said the placement service has reopened its online application portal for KCSE candidates who sat their examinations between 2022 and 2025 but failed to apply for or secure university placement.
The CEO urged eligible students not to miss the opportunity, noting that for the first time, KUCCPS is allowing late applications for degree programmes with immediate placement upon successful application.
"Did you score C+ and above in KCSE between 2022 and 2025 and missed university placement? Do not remain behind. Apply now," Wahome said.
The placement exercise targets students who attained the minimum university entry grade but, for various reasons, did not participate in previous placement cycles.
According to KUCCPS, applicants can choose from programmes offered in 44 public universities and the Open University of Kenya.
Students admitted through the placement process will be eligible for government scholarships and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans, easing the cost of pursuing higher education.
The move is expected to increase access to university education and ensure more qualified KCSE graduates transition to institutions of higher learning.
Education officials at the forum also encouraged students and parents to take advantage of the reopening of the application portal before the deadline.
The sensitisation campaign forms part of a nationwide drive by KUCCPS and other higher education agencies to create awareness on university placement, government funding and student financing.
Officials said many qualified KCSE graduates have in previous years missed university admission due to failure to apply despite meeting the minimum entry requirements.
The latest application window seeks to reduce that number by providing another opportunity for eligible candidates to enrol in degree programmes and continue with their academic journey.
