I'm deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, Muchina says after appointment

Former UDA candidate for Ol kalou parliamentary seat Samuel Muchina has thanked President William Ruto for appointing him as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, describing the appointment as a great honour and a vote of confidence in young leaders.

In a statement Wednesday, Muchina said he was deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, pledging to work diligently to help restore and protect Nairobi's rivers.

"I am deeply humbled and sincerely grateful to His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto for appointing me to serve as a Member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission," he said.

He termed the appointment a demonstration of the President's confidence in the ability of young leaders to contribute meaningfully to national development.

"This appointment is a great honour and a demonstration of the confidence the President has in the ability of young leaders to contribute meaningfully to national development. I accept this responsibility with humility, commitment and a clear understanding of the task ahead," he said.

Muchina noted that the commission has the critical responsibility of restoring, protecting and transforming Nairobi's rivers into clean, productive and sustainable ecosystems.

He pledged to work closely with fellow commissioners, government agencies, stakeholders and the public to deliver on the commission's mandate.

"The Nairobi Rivers Commission carries a critical mandate of restoring, protecting and transforming our rivers into clean, productive and sustainable ecosystems that will benefit present and future generations," he said.

Muchina also assured residents of Ol Kalou that his appointment would not affect his commitment to overseeing government development projects in the constituency.

"I shall continue with my other responsibility of supervising and following up on government projects in Ol Kalou, including roads, electrification, water, education, health and other development initiatives that are important to our people. Service to Ol Kalou remains a priority close to my heart," he said.

He thanked the people of Ol Kalou and other Kenyans for their support, saying the appointment reflected the potential of young leaders and the value of issue-based leadership.

Muchina reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, accountability, hard work and results-oriented leadership, expressing confidence that the commission would play a key role in improving Nairobi's environment and safeguarding the city's waterways for future generations.

Muchina was defeated in the July 16, Ol Kalou by-election by Douglas Kamau of DCP.

His appointment is contained in a Gazzete Notice dated July 22, 2026.

It comes barely a day after he met Ruto at State House.
