JUST HOW OPPRESSED were the staff in a state corporation that the recent news of its disbandment has caused such excitement? Corridors of Power is told the staff at all levels have been singing and dancing ever since the announcement was made. WITH REPORTS OF key state functionaries on the chopping block becoming credible, a woman state official who has always been too busy for members of the fourth estate is all of a sudden friendly and accessible. The officer was a rude snob and dished out excuses when sought for a comment about issues touching her state department. She would not pick up calls and would only call back with scolds, if the story was negative. But now, she’s sharing hundreds of photos for every little activity she does. Time will tell if that trick works magic.

IT IS WORTH noting when an agency outperforms others in responding to the needs of members of the public. This was the conversation by some motorists about the Kenya Urban Roads Authority for a job well done on Jogoo Road. The sorry situation of the road was highlighted in this column in December when it was dotted with potholes. The rough patches that not only slowed traffic but also exposed cars to wear and tear were fixed. The motorists were overheard cherishing the experience on the thoroughfare.
