Fake press conference invite

Embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has not called for a press conference at his residence as has been highly circulated.

Claims on social media, accompanied by an alleged media invite purported to have come from Gachagua’s Head of Communications Njeri Rugene raised speculations on the possibility of the press conference happening.

According to Rugene, however, the purported press invite was fake.

She insisted that the DP would not be holding any media address on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a card purporting to call for a media invite also went viral on social media before it was flagged by Gachagua’s communications team.

This comes amid calls by a section of leaders and Kenyans to have the Deputy President step down before it is too late.

They argue that once impeached, he risks losing his short political career.

Before becoming Deputy President, Gachagua had previously served for only one term as Mathira MP.
