The 2023 HIV prevalence data reveals critical insights into Kenya’s fight against the epidemic.

Female sex workers have the highest prevalence rate at 29.3 per cent, underscoring their vulnerability. Men who have sex with men (18.2 per cent) and people who inject drugs (18.3 per cent) are also at heightened risk.

Kenya currently has 1,378,457 people living with HIV, including 71,433 children under 14. The national prevalence rate stands at 3.3 per cent, with notable gender disparities: 4.5per cent for women and 2.2per cent for men.

These statistics, provided by the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council, highlight the importance of targeted prevention and care for these populations.

Effective interventions, such as access to education, healthcare services, and anti-stigma campaigns, are essential in reducing HIV transmission and improving the lives of affected individuals.
