Some of the leading counties in Kenya for climate change investment are: Kakamega: 65.9%, Bomet: 56.3%, Vihiga: 53.5% and Elgeyo-Marakwet: 51.9% .
Kenya faces significant challenges due to climate change, and county governments are focusing on enhancing resilience.
To support this, the County Climate Change Funds (CCCFs) were introduced as a financing mechanism for climate-related initiatives.
These funds were first implemented in Isiolo County in 2011 and later expanded to four additional counties in 2013. Currently, the CCCFs are being adopted across the country.
The objectives of the CCCFs include:
- Identifying and prioritizing investments to reduce climate risks and meet adaptation goals.
- Ensuring public participation through climate change planning committees at both county and ward levels.
- Utilizing climate data to enable community-driven actions and effective local strategies.
- Monitoring and sharing outcomes to foster learning and collaboration between counties and wards.
