Kenya's 2024 Gross County Product (GCP) report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reveals that 10 counties contribute minimally to the national GDP, averaging below 0.6% each from 2019 to 2023.
The bottom counties include Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River, and Lamu, each at 0.3%, followed by Wajir and Mandera at 0.5%. Garissa, Marsabit, Tharaka-Nithi, and Taita Taveta stand at 0.6% each.
The low contributions are attributed to underdeveloped infrastructure, minimal industrialization, and limited access to markets, which stifle economic growth in these regions.
