The housing sector has not realized its full potential, partly on account of several challenges that the sector continues to face.
The survey sought to collect the views of Built Environment Professionals on the key challenges facing the sector.
The results indicate that the Built Environment Professionals regard the high cost of finance (23.3%) as the topmost challenge facing the housing sector in Kenya.
These results corroborate the findings which indicate that affordability is the main issue in accessing housing finance.
The other
challenges identified by the professionals include the high
cost of building materials (20.0%), high cost of land
(17.8%) and high poverty levels (13.3%), which reduce
people’s ability to purchase or develop houses.
