Kenya's tourism sector has witnessed a surge in visitors from African countries, with Burundi leading the growth at 57.1 per cent, followed by Sudan (52.6 per cent) and Somalia (49.6 per cent).
The Democratic Republic of Congo recorded a 38.3 per cent increase, while Tanzania, Rwanda, and Eritrea also showed significant improvements.
The Annual Tourism Sector Performance Report 2024 attributes this growth to enhanced diplomatic relations, relaxed visa policies, and increased connectivity within Africa.
Notably, Uganda, Kenya’s long-standing top African source market, recorded a modest 9.6 per cent growth.
