Gambling involves risking money or valuable items on an event with an uncertain outcome, often driven by the hope of winning more.
Though it may seem thrilling, the results are mostly based on chance rather than skill.
It includes activities like betting, gaming, and lotteries, and can take place online or in physical venues such as casinos and betting shops.
In Kenya, gambling has become widespread, largely due to aggressive advertisements and sponsorships.
However, this popularity has come at a cost—many individuals have fallen into addiction, suffered financial ruin, and faced emotional distress.
To curb this, the Kenyan government has suspended gambling advertisements on all media platforms for 30 days, effective April 29, 2025. This move is aimed at creating awareness and controlling the negative impact of uncontrolled gambling.
