The period between 2022 and 2024 saw fluctuating trends in newborn health outcomes across Kenya.
Birth deformities, a significant concern, experienced an increase from 5,728 cases in 2022 to 6,079 in 2024, peaking at 5,340 in 2023.
This highlights the ongoing challenge of congenital issues. Similarly, fresh stillbirths, defined as babies born dead but showing no signs of decomposition, rose consistently from 9,384 in 2022 to 11,264 in 2024.
In contrast, macerated stillbirths—babies who die before labour—saw a slight decrease in 2023 but ended 2024 at a similar level to 2022, suggesting some stability in this area.
