The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council has released the Kenya HIV Estimates Report, 2026, uncovering critical disparities in how the epidemic impacts different demographics across the nation.

Data reveals an overall national HIV prevalence rate of 3.22%, translating to a total population burden of 1,481,853 individuals living with the virus.

A gender-focused breakdown of the statistics highlights a significant disparity, showing that women face a disproportionately higher prevalence rate of 4.3% compared to men, whose prevalence rate stands at 2.1%.

The pediatric demographic is also notably impacted, with 69,330 children aged between 0 and 14 years living with HIV during the same period.

The report also provides a sobering look at transmission and mortality metrics. Out of 13,396 total new infections recorded, adults aged 15 and older constituted the vast majority at 10,540 cases, or 76%, while children aged 0 to 14 years accounted for 3,396 new infections, representing 24%.

On mortality, the country recorded a total of 19,393 AIDS-related deaths. Adults aged 15 years and older suffered the highest loss of life, making up 88% of the fatalities, with 17,167 deaths.

Meanwhile, children aged 0 to 14 years accounted for the remaining 12%, totalling 2,226 deaths.
