China secured a massive lead in global renewable power capacity in 2025, reaching an unprecedented 2,258.02 gigawatts.

Data released by Statista in March 2026 shows China's capacity vastly outpaced all other nations, firmly establishing the country as the dominant player in the global shift toward clean energy.

The United States followed in a distant second place, recording 467.92 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity.

India captured the third spot on the global leaderboard with 250.52 gigawatts, closely followed by Brazil at 228.2 gigawatts.

Germany rounded out the top five global leaders, reporting an installed capacity of 199.92 gigawatts.

Further down the rankings, major economies continued to expand their green footprints. Japan reached 134.53 gigawatts, while Canada surpassed the century mark at 110.51 gigawatts.

European nations filled out the remainder of the top ten leaderboard, with Spain reporting 98.61 gigawatts, France at 83.63 gigawatts, and Italy completing the list with 78.28 gigawatts.

Renewable power capacity measures electricity-generating facilities powered by clean, natural sources. This includes generation from solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, biomass, and ocean energy.

As countries look to transform their grids, these metrics track the scale of operational infrastructure globally, highlighting a sharp contrast between China's rapid infrastructure deployment and the rest of the world's leading economies.
