Syria's capital, Damascus, has been ranked the world's least liveable city in 2026, scoring just 32 out of 100 in the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index.
The index assesses cities across five categories: stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and culture and environment.
Libya's Tripoli ranked second least liveable with 41 points, followed by Dhaka, Bangladesh (42). Karachi, Pakistan, and Algiers, Algeria, each scored 43, while Lagos, Nigeria, and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, both scored 44.
Kyiv, Ukraine, Harare, Zimbabwe, and Tehran, Iran, rounded out the bottom 10 with 45 points each.
