Other crimes reported

Police in Kisumu launched an investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Richard Odhiambo, whose body was found lying in a pool of blood long after he had been hit in the head.

The victim worked at a local bakery, his colleagues and police said.

Police said he was attacked by three men as he walked home on Saturday and they are yet to know the motive of the same.

The body was moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested three suspects believed to be behind a string of violent robberies in Imenti North and Buuri West sub-counties.

The officers recovered an M16 rifle during the crack operation mounted by officers drawn from the DCI Headquarters Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Operation Support Unit (OSU) and Operation Action Team (OAT).

Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Mohamed Amin said the officers were aided in the operation by their counterparts from Imenti Central and Buuri West sub-counties.

“Detectives tracked down the suspects out of their hideouts, and through meticulous interrogation, the suspects eventually led the officers to Kianjuri village, where they had buried the firearm in a concealed location,” Amin said.

Elsewhere, a police officer was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a reveller in a bar in an altercation in Githurai, Nairobi.

The police officer was arrested on suspicion of murder after John Mutembei, 24, died from gunshot wounds early Sunday morning.

Police said Mutembei died while being treated at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital after being shot.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Police said preliminary findings had shown the two had an altercation that led to the shooting.

Mutembei was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.

His body was transferred to the mortuary at the same facility awaiting an autopsy.
