Detectives based at Sotik subcounty, Bomet, have launched a probe into a case where a woman was found dead in a maize plantation near Tembwo trading centre on Sunday.
The 38-year-old woman, who is a casual worker is reported to have been in the company of an unidentified man before her lifeless body was discovered.
The detectives who spoke to the press at the scene of the crime said the body bore no injuries leaving many questions as to what might have led to her death.
According to subcounty police commandant Francis Ng’ang’a, the deceased, a mother of four might have been raped before she was strangulated to death.
Ng'ang'a said the presence of drugs and illegal alcoholic drinks has perpetuated heinous crimes in the area.
He, however, said police would not shelve the matter till those responsible face the law.
Meanwhile, the body is laying at Kapkatet hospital morgue awaiting postmortem examination as burial arrangements are underway.
