Government to station immigration officer in Botswana to help with passport issues - Gachagua

He said in two to three weeks, there will be a permanent immigration officer at the Kenyan High Commission in Botswana.

The government of Kenya has announced new measures to assist in immigration challenges in Botswana.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday said that will station an immigration officer in Botswana to help solve the issues with passports

The DP said the government is aware that many encounter challenges when dealing with passport issues and immigration. 

Gachagua said in two to three weeks, there will be a permanent immigration officer at the Kenyan High Commission in Botswana to offers Kenyans assistance. 

" As we speak,  an immigration officer has been identified and posted here and shortly once the processing is done, in two to three weeks, we will have a permanent immigration officer at Kenyan High Commission in Botswana to help solve the issues with passports," he said.

Going further Gachagua said many Kenyans in Botswana had to go all the way to Pretoria in South Africa to get assistance on immigration matters.

He acknowledged that going all the way to South Africa is a very expensive journey. 

"Kenyans with passport or immigration issues have to wait for someone to come from Pretoria to get assistance which is time-consuming and causes inconvenience,"  Gachagua added.

Gachagua is in Botswana to attend the Forbes Summit.
