The Ministry of Interior has been urged to include women in major decision-making processes.

Speaking on Tuesday during the opening of a three-day Regional Centre for Small Arms and light weapons (RECSA) workshop, a representative from the Ministry of Gender Beatrice Gachie said women play a big role in peace and security.

''When we are talking about Gender policy, that does not mean we are going to place guns in women's hands but to include them in the decision making,'' Gachie said.

Gachie added that women suffer psychological trauma since they are the primary targets of Small Arms and Light Weapons Management.

"The presence of none authorised small arms and weapons used in crimes and conflict affect women in the form of trauma more than men especially when the husbands are the breadwinners," she said.

The Regional Centre for Small Arms, UN-Women and Unoda committed to work together in the development of the Gender policy.
