Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had a busy week whose main highlight was his attendance at the country's 60th Madaraka day celebrations in Embu County.

During the June 1 celebrations at the Moi Stadium Embu, Gachagua said that leaders must live by the resolve of the freedom fighters in building the nation to prosperity despite challenges.

''Our heroes and heroines won because they were also armed with sheer resolve to deliver self-rule and ultimate independence,'' he said.

On May 31, the DP held a meeting with elected leaders from Kiambu County at his Karen Official Residence.

He said the meeting was for consultation on development programmes at a time when there are reports of a fallout among Kenya Kwanza politicians in Kiambu county.

''The leadership also briefed me on the progress made so far in the fight against drugs and substance abuse,'' he said.

There were reports that the meeting sought to forestall a planned impeachment motion against Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi.

On May 30, Gachagua was in Nakuru county where he held consultations with various leaders and line agencies to strategise on how to fight illicit brews in the Rift Valley region.

''While the strategy is multi-agency focused in implementation, we made a step in identifying monitoring processes to keep track of the progress for better interventions,'' he said.

On May 29, Gachagu attended a church service in his Nyeri backyard that was organised in honour of the distinguished service of Archbishop Julius Njoroge Gitau of the AIPCA church.

''It takes commitment for a leader to stand with the Church of Christ for 50 years and pave the way for others to take over; archbishop Gitau now has time to mentor other young leaders, a gesture for all to emulate,'' he told the congregation.

On Friday June 2, Gachagua joined President William Ruto at the state drama festival at State House, Nairobi.

During the event, Gachagua emphasised the need to promote creativity and talent, especially among youngsters.

'' Watching this year's National Drama and Film Festival State House Concert with President @WilliamsRuto, was evident that we have extraordinary talent,'' Gachagua said.
