Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni speaks at a past event

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has issued an update on his health status after contracting Covid-19 virus two days ago.

Museveni who has since gone into self-isolation said on Friday his doctor informed him that the respiratory infection is mild.

The doctor, Diana Atwiine, said the infection should be managed conservatively by vitamins especially vitamin C and D and some antihistamines.

"When Atwiine announced my corona status the other day, I'm the one who told her to do it. I was still busy with other issues," he said.

The President said he will do another test after two more days.

He said on his second day of living with the virus, he felt very sleepy at around 11am yet he had slept well the previous night.

"Hence, I slept soundly up to 3pm," Museveni said.

When he woke up, he was fresh and moved to write a short speech for one of the government officials to read in Luwero on Friday.

Museveni said he had to send Vice President Jessica Alupo in Lusaka for the Comesa Summit.

Museveni then slept at 10pm and woke up at 3am with a slight vague headache.

"I call it vague because it was not obwaabe (temples headache), it was not oruhora-hoore (the crown of the head) headache and it was not around the engata (the ring) of the head," he said.

Museveni sat up to drink more water as advised by his daughter Patience Kokundeeka. Thereafter, the headache went away and he slept again.

"It seems immunisation and the boosters for the immunisation, do help. I will keep you informed," he said.

Museveni urged everyone to be fully vaccinated and for the elderly get boosters.
