Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has urged Kenyans to reject those spreading misinformation about the Taifa Care health programme.
PS Omollo emphasised that the new health scheme is designed to promote equity in the access to healthcare services for all citizens.
He reassured the public that registration is still open and encouraged every Kenyan to seize the opportunity to be part of the universal health coverage.
"President William Ruto is committed to ensuring universal health coverage for all Kenyans," the PS said.
He added that the Social Health Authority (SHA) will work to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of their financial situation, has access to quality healthcare.
The PS further highlighted that the scheme will not only ensure the availability of essential medicines in hospitals but also improve healthcare facilities nationwide.
"This is a positive development for this country, don't listen to the negative rumours spread by those opposed to this scheme. It's designed with your wellbeing in mind," he said.
Omollo explained that contributions under the new scheme are based on individual earnings, with high income earners contributing more to support those in lower income brackets.
He also pointed out that the scheme will help eliminate the need for frequent fundraising to cover hospital bills for families and friends.
The PS noted that many Kenyans are living in poverty due to medical expenses that have drained their savings and assets.
"We have families who have been forced to sell their property to pay medical bills. Under the universal healthcare programme championed by the President, once all Kenyans are registered, the government will ensure that those in Taifa Care are fully supported."
PS Omollo was speaking in Siaya during a community engagement at Nina Primary School in North Alego, Siaya county.
The event organised by Attorney General Dorcas Owuor in collaboration with the Ndege Community Resource Centre featured a range of activities designed to empower and serve the residents in provision of critical government services such as birth registration and issuance of good conduct certificates among others.
"This noble initiative underscored our collective commitment to fostering accessibility, inclusivity and development at the grassroot," Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi said.
He noted that this was a remarkable initiative by the AG in bringing government services closer to the community.
