Children in the Western region of the country can breathe a sigh of relief after the Ministry of Health officially unveiled a Paediatric Ophthalmology Centre.
The Paediatric Ophthalmology Centre and The Sabatia Eye Training Centre opened at Sabatia Eye Hospital in Sabatia in Vihiga County on Saturday.
The ceremony was presided over by Health CS Susan Wafula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
According to a statement by the ministry, the centre has been specifically designed to create a safe and child-friendly environment, ensuring that young patients feel comfortable and at ease during their visits.
“The Paediatric Ophthalmology Centre has a primary focus on providing accessible and affordable eye care services to children in Western Kenya and the surrounding areas,” the ministry said.
“The goal of this centre is to increase the pool of qualified professionals who can effectively treat various eye conditions and significantly contribute to reducing blindness throughout the country,” it added.
In addition to the Paediatric Ophthalmology Centre, the Sabatia Eye Training Centre has been established to address the issue of blindness in Kenya by training a larger number of eye specialists.
