Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai is set to appear in court over the alleged assault of a Kenya Power engineer, Julius Onkangi at his Kitengela home.

According to Kitengela OCS David Shani, Mbai presented himself to the police station at 11.49 am, Wednesday.

The legislator was allegedly caught on camera beating Onkangi when he reportedly sought to disconnect an illegal power line at the MP’s house.

Earlier KPLC union members numbering about 30 from the Kitengela branch had protested at the Kitengela police station demanding for the MP's arrest.

The unionists demanded to know if the suspect had been apprehended and the OCS assured them that he had indeed been arrested.

On the claims that he beat the KPLC engineer, Mbai alleged he was acting in self-defence but Onkango on Wednesday said he did not provoke the MP and was only trying to disconnect the power that was illegally installed in the MP’s house.
