Seme MP James Nyikal has questioned the brutal character of the police that resulted into chaos during demonstrations.

He alleged that the conduct of the police has raised eyebrows across the country and even internationally, with some believing the country is back to the KANU era.

The lawmaker spoke on Tuesday during an interview with KTN.

"The police doing their job is exactly the way they were doing it in the KANU era," Nyikal said.

He was reminiscent that the very first demos at the Kamukunji grounds were peaceful, only for the police at Mathare to disrupt the session before chaos ensued.

Nyikal said the Azimio coalition had not expected many people would  come out during the demos.

He said the anti-government demos were not just about the cost of living, but rather, the governance of the country.

"It is not for the opposition to actively reduce the cost of living. The work of the opposition is to keep the government on toes to do things that will reduce the cots of living," Nyikal pointed out.

Nyikal said the opposition is concerned the government made a lot of promises to Kenyans that remains unfulfilled. He further questioned whether President William Ruto has professionals who's responsibility is to advice him.

"You don't let someone in the position of the President make a promise that does not materialise. Particularly where people are really suffering with the high cost of  foodstuffs and fuel, "he said.
