President William Ruto has directed the Kenya Ports Authority to ensure the Shimoni fish port in Kwale County is ready by next year.
Ruto said he wants the fish port to be operational so that it can help unlock the potential of the blue economy.
"I want the KPA chairman Benjamin Tayari to make sure the fish port is completed by June 2024 and I will come here to open it," he said.
The head of state said the government has set aside Sh2.5 billion to have the fish port constructed.
He said his administration is aiming at improving the production capacity of the blue economy from currently Sh15 billion to Sh100 billion.

He said the Indian Ocean remains a key strategic resource to make investments.
Ruto said the government has set aside Sh532 million to have over 2500 youth trained as contains and equipped with fishing gear to help exploit the blue economy opportunities.
"We want to empower our youth through training and mobilizing necessary resources for them to invest in the blue economy," he said.
He said the government is constructing landing sites across Kenya for youth training.
Ruto said more landing sites are going to be constructed across Kenya and equipped with cold storage facilities for processing and value addition.
He said the government wants Kenyan fishermen to benefit from their hard work and improve the economy.
Ruto said they are looking forward to maximizing fish production and stop from importing fish from other countries.
He urged the coastal residents to continue keeping peace and shun demonstrations that bring nothing but the destruction of poverty
The President said tourism is the backbone of the coastal economy and going to the streets will put off inventors and tourists.
He said the only way the tourism economy to prosper is by holding peace and demonstrations don't contribute to development but further problems
The head of state said the Kenya Kwanza government has plans on how to reduce the cost of living but protests will derail the plans.
"The government has the great potential to address issues of unemployment, hunger and restoring the economy," Ruto said.
"We have a historic moment to rebuild our economy. We have a clear plan of food security, development and creating jobs for our youth."
He said the Kenya Kwanza government also wants to put on infrastructure for agricultural produce to help lower the cost of food and living standards.
He said by next week the price of fertilizer will drop from Sh3000 to Sh2500 to help farmers produce more food.
Ruto urged Kenyans to concentrate on farming rather than going for demos to put on sufurias.
He said people must refuse violence as part of Kenyan politics.
