University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama is back to work barely a month after he took a six-month sabbatical.

Prof Kiama reported to work on Friday and took to social media platform X to declare that he was done resting.

"Well rested and rejuvenated. Back to work!"he said.

On Friday evening, he addressed the entire university fraternity on the direction the campus should take in a video shared on YouTube.

The VC apprised learners on the reporting dates for the 2023-2024 academic year.

"All freshers who have been admitted to UoN will report to their respective campuses and faculties on Monday, September 25, 2023. All continuing students will commence their first semester classes on October 9, 2023," the VC said.

Kiama went a head and congratulated the new cohort of learners joining the institution saying they chose the best institution to further their studies.

The VC added that the upcoming graduation will be physical, moving away from the virtual celebration which was prompted with the arrival of the pandemic.

Kiama had taken sabbatical leave from August 1. The six-month leave was meant to run till the end of January, 2024.

The VC said he had not taken leave for a long time, thus had accumulated his leave days.

In Kiama's absence, the University council had settled on Professor Julius Ogengo as acting VC.

Kiama became the university's VC in January, 2020 to serve for a five-year term that is set to end in 2025.
