ARREST

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority collaborated with the Energy Police Unit to carry out two raids on illegal Liquefied Petroleum Gas re-fillers and arrested one plant owner.

The raids were carried out on Wednesday at the Industrial Area along Enterprise Road in Makadara subcounty, Nairobi.

"During the two raids, filled Liquefied Petroleum and Gas (LPG) cylinders were seized," Epra said.

The regulator said the plant owner will be arraigned and charged with violation of a number of clauses in the Petroleum Act, No2 of 2019.

Epra said the plant owner went against clause 14(a) of the Act by refilling cylinders of a brand that he does not own.

The clause says it is wrong for one to refill cylinders without prior written consent from the brand owner and that the consent be submitted to the energy regulatory authority.

'The suspect also went against clause 14 (b) (ii) by refilling a cylinder that is defaced, tampered or bears illegible writings and clause 14 (c),  refilling of a cylinder that is due for repair, requalification or scrapped," Epra said.

Epra and the Energy Police Unit urged the public to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspected instances of malpractice in the petroleum sector to Epra Kenya through: [email protected] or hotline number or 0709 336 000.
