Police detectives in Kajiado are investigating a case in which a man waylaid his brother and stabbed him to death on Sunday.
Kajiado North subcounty police commander Abduba Hussein said the incident happened early morning on Sunday when the suspect confronted his brother with a knife.
Hussein said the deceased, Peter Kinuthia, was taken to Ngong subcounty Hospital by two of his friends but was pronounced dead on arrival at the facility.
“It was established that the deceased was at his friend, John Njoroge's house after being dropped off on a motorbike on Saturday night from Ngong town where the suspect was having drinks with him (deceased) and other people,” said the OCPD.
The OCPD told the Star that at around 0700hrs on Sunday, the deceased's brother who is a suspect in the case, arrived at the house while armed with a kitchen knife and started confrontations.
“He later stubbed the deceased on his right inner thigh. The deceased was rushed to Ngong subcounty hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival,” said the police boss.
The incident took place in the Gichagi slum of Ngong.
Area chief, George Kimemia told the Star the suspect is a known criminal in the area.
Kimemia said the suspect, before the Sunday morning incident where he killed his brother, was being trailed by the DCI for having almost killed another person in June, this year, in the same slums.
The chief said the suspect has two houses where he pays rent in Gichagi and Mathare slums, which are both in Ngong.
The police said the suspect fled after the incident on Sunday morning.
An eyewitness, and a resident of Ngong town, told the Star the suspect was seen drinking beer with his deceased brother and other two people at a bar outlet in Ngong town on Saturday evening.
“They were jovial as they took the beer and ate meat together. There was no sign of trouble at the time,” the eyewitness told the Star.
He said that he has known the suspect for many years as a gangster, who has evaded police dragnet for a long time.
“He is known in Gichagi and Mathare as a ruthless man. Anybody reporting his presence to the police among his neighbours would mean death,” he said.
Chief Kimemia confirmed that the suspect is, indeed, a known crook who has instilled fear in those close to him, including his grandmother, who lives in Gichagi.
He said the suspect has a network and knows what is happening in the two slum areas.
The OCPD said the scene of the attack was visited by the DCI officers from Ngong town, and later documented.
He said the body has been moved to Kikuyu mortuary and is awaiting postmortem.
