PAC chairman John Mbadi during a session with IEBC officials on Monday.

Nominated MP John Mbadi has said that President William Ruto's four-day visit to the Nyanza region was not for development purposes.

According to the MP, the visit was purely to sell the United Democratic Alliance party ideals to the people of Nyanza.

Mbadi insisted that Ruto brought nothing new to the region despite launching many projects during the visit.

He said said most of the projects were launched by previous administrations.

"First, I was away and even if I was around I wouldn't welcome him (Ruto). To me, I believe that the President's visit was purely to sell the UDA agenda. It had nothing to do with development, there is nothing new that Ruto brought to Nyanza, let it go on record. All those things he was claiming to launch had been launched during Kibaki's time.

"What we are waiting for is those projects to be completed so that they can be commissioned. Let the president come and commission completed projects, you cannot launch a project twice. One of the projects is in the constituency I represented for 15 years. The Mbita-Sindo-Magunga-Sori Road. It was started in September 2021," Mbadi said on Citizen TV.

During the president's four-day working visit to Nyanza, he engaged in a host of activities including the launching of the UDA offices in various parts of the region.

In each place he visited, the head of state was received by crowds of women and men donning clothes branded with the ruling party's colours and logo.

During the visit, Ruto launched the groundbreaking of the Kabonyo Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Center of Excellence in Nyando, Kisumu.

He also commissioned the Lake Basin Mall, a significant retail and entertainment hub, and the Koru-Bible College Road.

Ruto also launched the MV Uhuru 2, a ship that will operate on Lake Victoria, enhancing transportation, trade, and economic growth, positioning the Nyanza region as a hub for maritime transport and logistics.

In Siaya county, the President launched the upgrading to the Bitumen standard of the 27km Bondo-Uyawi-Kibanga-Liunda Road and a digital laboratory at Mutumbu Technical Training Institute.

He also launched the construction of a Level 4 hospital in the Ugenya constituency.

In Homa Bay County, launched construction of the 53 km Mfangano Island Ring Road and upgraded to the Bitumen standard of the 74km Mbita- Sindo-Kiabuya-Sori Road.

Ruto also launched the rehabilitation of the Homa Bay Pier and other piers, such as the Kendu Bay, Mbita, and Asembo Bay Piers.

In Migori County, Ruto launched the Last Mile water connectivity project at Kegonga, Kuria East and a tuition block at Rongo University.

He also commissioned Uriri Hospital and the construction of the Mabera affordable Housing project in Kuria West constituency.
