Kenya Power MD Siror recounts college moments with Ruto

He was responding to a viral photo in which he is captured with Ruto.

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) managing director Joseph Siror opened up Tuesday about a viral photo in which a man resembling is captured.

In the photo which went rounds on social media immediately after he was appointed, President William Ruto also appears alongside four unidentified individuals.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Siror confirmed that he was indeed the one.

"I am the one. Maybe the year 1989 or 1990 in Lake Nakuru," he said.

When asked about where he met the head of state, Siror said they met in college and used to preach during their free time.

“We were together in college and we used to preach together,” he said noting during his free time he also ministers the word.

He could not however reveal his church saying, “Invite me anywhere and when I am free I will come and preach”.

Some of those who reacted to the photo when it first emerged lauded the head of state for rewarding his friends even as others criticised him.

“The President seems to value friendship and loyalty so much...I am curious to know where these gentlemen are currently,” one of the X followers wrote.

On last-mile power connectivity, the MD stated that currently, there are nine million Kenyans connected up from two million in 2013.

“There are several tenders that are now ongoing because we want the electricity penetration that is now at 76 per cent to hit 100 per cent by 2030,” he said.

Siror took over from Geoffrey Muli who held the position since May 2022.

Before his appointment, Siror was the General Manager in charge of Technical Services at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO).

He has experience spanning over 30 years in diverse business portfolios, the KPLC board said in a statement.

He holds a PhD in engineering majoring in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) from Shanghai Jiaotong University (China).

Siror also has an MBA degree and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of London.

He also has a pre-Kenya School of Law certificate from Riara University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Radiation Protection from the UoN.

Siror is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).

He is also a Corporate Member of the Institute of Engineers in Kenya (IEK).
