Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo wants all the peace and security sector players to be actively involved in the national dialogue that seeks to strengthen Kenya’s capacity to address conflicts in the country and the region at large.

He said the country is in the final stages of reviewing its National Peace-building Architecture, with its unveiling set for later in the year, as part of the wider efforts to promote sustainable peace.

He said this will bolster its capacity to address conflicts within and outside the country.

“Kenya may very well be the only country worldwide that has undertaken a peacebuilding architecture review.”

“It is our aspiration that the implementation will reinforce our position as a global and regional leader in peacebuilding,” Omollo said.

The PS spoke when he presided over the official opening of the 2023 Biennial International Peace Conference at the African International University on Tuesday, October 24.

He said the three-day conference will primarily focus on incorporating African-centric values into peace-building processes.

Participants will also examine Kenya’s experiences in areas of peace and conflict.

Omollo said that Kenya will take the leading role amidst the evolving security landscape in the region noting that such engagements will play a critical role in addressing existing gaps in the peace-building architecture.

“There are conflicts not just in this continent of ours but across and we are looking at learning from experiences from various scholars and practitioners’ individuals also involved peace-building space,” Omollo said

Present at the event was the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Chairperson Samuel Kobia among other senior officials.

The theme of the meeting is “Contextualizing Peace Building; Seizing Opportunities for African Realities”.

The event brought together participants drawn from across Africa and the country.
