Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sensationally claimed that his life is in danger.
In a letter to the Inspector of General Police and copied to President William Ruto, Gachagua listed multiple incidents that he claimed were a threat to his life.
He gave a timeline dating back to November 28, 2024, when he was attacked during a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County.
The former DP claimed that this was an assassination attempt that had failed, even as he detailed the damage caused during the solemn event.
He regretted that no legal action had been taken by the perpetrators.
He went on to claim that on December 19, 2024, he was trailed by an unmarked vehicle for over 150km in Makueni County for reasons he does not yet know.
Gachagua claimed that his family members have been trailed by unknown people on other occasions who use unmarked cars and clandestine number plates.
On December 28, 2024, Gachagua claimed that an organized criminal gang disrupted his meeting in Shamata, Nyandarua County.
He alleged that a tear gas canister was thrown at him to scatter his supporters and create grounds for his assassination.
Gachagua also stated that on January 18, 2025, at a prayer rally at Kamukunji grounds in Nyeri town, his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, was attacked.
The former DP said she had to be whisked away by private security, adding that he was to attend the meeting but skipped after an intelligence tip-off.
“I skipped as a responsible citizen to avoid what would have led to conflict, bad for our nation,” he said.
On March 23, 2025, he said a gang attacked faithfuls where he was attending a service at the ACK St Peter’s Cathedral in Nyeri.
He claimed that police officers “idly watched” as the chaos unfolded.
Further, Gachagua said on March 29, 2025, in Naivasha town, police roughed up his supporters, who had gathered for a meet and greet.
On April 6, 2025, while at a church at PCEA Kasarani East Parish at Mwiki, Nairobi, Gachagua said a group of rowdy individuals armed with crude weapons attacked.
He faulted the police for not responding to the matter.
Gachagua warned that any assassination attempts meted out to him would be credited to Kanja.
