Kenya records 820 criminal incidents daily, Commission on Administration of Justice report shows.

According to the report, the office of DPP received 299,483 criminal files during the 2022-2023 Financial Year.

These files includes appeals and applications.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jacinta Nyamosi highlighted the milestones listed in the report before it's launch.

NPS processed 97,301 serious crimes while  EACC processed 5,349 complaints during that Financial Year.

According to the report, IPOA conducted 2,077 investigations.

Nyamosi noted that there was a decrease in the criminal cases handled by the ODPP from Financial Year 2021/22 to Financial Year 2022/23.

In the Financial Year 2021/22, the ODPP processed 317,885 cases.

"The report attributes this decrease to sustained policy interventions, sensitisation of stakeholders on the decision to charge guidelines, effective architect of the diversion policy and plea bargain alternatives," she added.

Further, in the Financial Year 2022/23, the Kenya Prison Service closed with a population of 61,915, which the judiciary has noted is a signal to the urgent need to augment their decongestion strategies.

The Probation and Aftercare Service (PACS) supervised 46,504 persons under probation orders, community service orders and aftercare programmes.
