Joy engulfed residents of Kakwanyang village in Turkana Central after receiving food items to celebrate Christmas.

The residents received food from Apostle Wanyonyi the founder of Dan Wema Foundation in collaboration with Bible Community Church in Kitale Trans Nzoia.

Wanyonyi and the church donated food and non items including wheat flour, cooking oil, maize, beans, sugar, tea leaves, maize flour, porridge flour, sanitary towels and other items to the hunger stricken families and children's home centre.

"As a team we agreed we shouldn't celebrate alone this festive season but remember the vulnerable people in Turkana to share love," he said.

"With this hard economic status in Kenya we have travelled from Nairobi to Turkana to give food to the vulnerable people so that they can have a reason to celebrate and enjoy Christmas holiday."

He said they have distributed food items to at least 500 families in Turkana Central.

"I urge those who are blessed please visit this place and make a difference by touching a life people are suffering here. We don't give because we have but we give because we understand how it feels by having nothing," he said.

Pastor Luke Kiptoo of Bible Community Church said for years he has been hearing about hunger situation in Turkana but now he has seen how people are in dire need of food.

He thanked the efforts of Wanyonyi for mobilising resources to buy food for the hunger-stricken families in Turkana.

Pauline Munyes, a resident of Kakwanyang appreciated the act of kindness.

"We experienced the harsh drought that claimed all the livestock that I depend on for survival. We now depend on relief for survival and it's easy a week to end without eating something. I thank the Church for their thoughtfulness and kindness to remember," she said.
