Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has given ex-Kenyan boxing champion Conjestina Achieng another chance to undergo rehab.

This is after reports circulated online that Conjestina had relapsed after visiting her rural home in Yala.

In a statement through his X handle on Tuesday, Sonko said he is giving Conjestina the third and last chance to continue with her healing journey.

Sonko revealed that Conjestina has since been readmitted to the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Centre to begin her treatment journey.

“Even though our chances in Conjestina's healing journey were watered down, I'm a person who doesn't give up in life. It is for this reason that we have given Conjestina the third and last chance again on her case,” Sonko said.

“I just want to let the public know that she was readmitted at the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Centre where she will start her treatment afresh under the care of a group of specialists, including councillors, consultants and physiatrists,” Sonko added.

He further thanked the Mombasa Women's Hospital management for accepting Conjestina back to the facility.

Ten years ago‘Conje’ was on the verge of 'vanishing' as she faced financial and mental health issues since she left boxing in 2011.

Her career came to a sudden end when she started suffering mentally.

In September 2022, the boxing champion was admitted to Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Hospital in Miritini.

She had been admitted to various facilities after her health and mental status deteriorated.

Sonko had come to the aid of the boxing champion after he visited her while she was at the hospital.

Conjestina appeared to be on the right track to recovery until recent reports that she was relapsing.

Last week, Sonko came out to defend himself with 'receipts' after allegations that he played PR with Conjestina’s case.
