Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has launched the distribution of litter bins in subcounties for cleaner and greener environment.
He said the move is part of broader efforts to instil a culture of environmental responsibility among residents.
"These litter containers, including skips, single bins and triple bins for waste segregation, signify our commitment towards responsible waste management in Kiambu," Wamatangi said.
He said the county environment officers have been empowered to educate the public on waste segregation.
The triple bins are colour-coded for easy identification-blue for plastics, red for non-recyclable waste and green for organic waste.
Kiamwangi MCA Kung'u Smart urged residents to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
"As much as the Kiambu county administration has the responsibility of collecting garbage, it is our own obligation to keep the environment we are living in clean and free from garbage," he said.
Present during the distribution were environment and waste management executive David Kuria, chief officer Jennifer Musyoki and MCAs, led by majority leader Godfrey Mucheke.
Others were environment and waste management director Andrew Kimani, waste management assistant director Monica Kingori and environment assistant director Peter Okoth.
