Ruto to chair Cabinet retreat in Naivasha
President William Ruto will preside over a four-day annual retreat of the National Executive in Naivasha.
Cabinet Secretaries and top officials in the executive and legislature have already convened in Naivasha for the annual Cabinet retreat.
The retreat, which is set to officially begin today, is aimed at reviewing Kenya Kwanza’s scorecard, and highlighting key accomplishments since the administration assumed office in September 2022.
Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and other government officials will review their BETA plan as was agreed upon during the inaugural retreat at the Mount Kenya Safari Club in Nanyuki.
The retreat will also allow the government to evaluate the achievements made over the last 17 months to consolidate gains.
SUPKEM to issue a statement on the status of the council
The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims will hold a press briefing on the status of the council after the court's decision on Friday.
SUPKEM has lately been faced with a leadership wrangle.
A letter by the Registrar of Societies dated January 23, 2023, affirmed that Yusuf Abdulrahman Nzibo was still SUPKEM’s Chairman, as per the 2017 records.
However, the council has maintained that Nzibo was ousted by the National governing council in 2017.
Hearing of extradition case of murder suspect wanted in US starts
Hearing of the extradition case against Kevin Kangethe, the man wanted in the US over the murder of his girlfriend begins.
The court will determine if he should be sent to the US to face charges for the murder of his girlfriend in October last year.
The court ordered Kang’ethe to be held at the Industrial Area Remand Prison and not at a police station pending the case against him.
According to Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, it will not be safe for Kang’ethe to be remanded in a police station having escaped from the Muthaiga Police Station.
Aukot tells Raila to treat AU's job as a retirement benefit
Third Away Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has urged Opposition leader Raila Odinga to treat the position of African Union Commission Chairperson as a retirement gift if he gets it.
He further asked Raila to appoint a successor, who would take after him in the political arena.
This according to him will be the hallmark of a good leader
"You need to be magnanimous enough and anoint a successor in both the ODM party and Luo Nyanza. Don't waste that chance," he said.
Raila last week made a surprise announcement of his bid for the position of African Union Commission Chairperson.
State, unions to meet this week over medical interns stalemate
Ministry of Health and unions to have a meeting this week to resolve the impasse surrounding medical interns. A meeting held last week saw the ministry withdraw it's earlier statement where it had said interns will be posted from July.
The unions maintain the interns be posted before end of February as had been agreed in a meeting held in January.
