Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday met with the Russian Federation ambassador to Kenya, Dmitry Maksimychev.

During their meeting, an array of issues were discussed between the two including relations between Kenya and Russia.

Mudavadi said they also discussed other critical global issues including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

He insisted that Kenya will continue calling for diplomatic solution to the conflict that has been on for two years.

"Kenya continues to call for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict so as to prevent further humanitarian suffering on both sides," Mudavadi said.

The Prime CS who is also the CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs added that they also discussed avenues for expanding partnership between Kenya and Russia.

"We underscored the huge potential for expanding cooperation between the two nations across various areas."

Elsewhere, Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also held a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Okaniwa Ken.

The two discussed among others, issues of cooperation and future collaboration between Kenya and Japan.

Duale said the issues would also deepen diplomatic ties and strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.

Present during their meeting was the Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy at the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Richard Mwanzia.

This comes even as President William Ruto is keen on strengthening bilateral ties with foreign nations.

He insists that the bilateral the renewed bilateral relations have seen several projects that had initially stalled being revived and have become a source of livelihood for many Kenyans.

The president is banking on bilateral agreements between Kenya and other nations to create jobs by exporting talent to work and earn a living from providing services in these countries.

In December 2023, while receiving credentials from 11 new ambassadors and high commissioners, Ruto said Kenya would foster strong bilateral relations with other nations to enhance its development agenda.

He said the government will capitalise on such relations to explore untapped opportunities and broaden trade and investment prospects.

“Bilateral relations are crucial as they facilitate cooperation on areas of mutual interest unlocking opportunities for economic, political, and social development,” the President said.

While the relations continue to be built locally through ambassadors, Ruto has also been visiting different countries at the invitation of their leaders in efforts to fast-track the same.
