LSK president: I thank my competitors for respectful contest

Faith Odhiambo the newly elected Law Society of Kenya president has shared her excitement after emerging the winner in the Thursday polls.

Taking to social media on X, Odhiambo shared a heartfelt message to the law society team that showed up to vote for her.

"Thank you for making your choice, the Stable Progressive Bar. Once again, you have kept the faith, and fulfilling my commitment to you is the highest gratitude I can offer, and I shall," Odhiambo said.

"I appreciate my competitors in the presidential race for the spirited but respectful contest. We have shown that our society is the gold standard for professionalism and collegiality, ideological differences notwithstanding."

The newly elected president said she was ready to start her work in office and make her agenda a reality.

"We must now make the PSP Agenda a reality, the vote in support of it is an affirmation that it is the right plan of action for our society. Let us build this stable progressive bar together," she said.

The PSP agenda that Odhiambo unveiled during her campaign is a mission to protect the rule of law; stability of the society; Progress of the Bar, Practice and Welfare.

The just concluded elections had five candidates vying for the presidency.

They included Peter Wanyama, Carolyne Kamende, Faith Odhiambo, Harriet Mboche and Kipkoech Bernhard Ngetich.

Results seen by the Star show Odhiambo got 3,113 votes followed closely by Wanyama who had 2,165 votes.

Kamede had 888 votes, Ng'etich 833 votes and Mboche 511 votes.

Wanyama, Faith's closest challenger, has conceded defeat.

Faith Odhiambo's Law Society of Kenya's presidential bid was endorsed by three vice presidential candidates; Anna Konuche, Mwaura Kabata and Okenyo George Omwanza who accompanied her during the launch of her manifesto.

The lawyer has promised to ensure that the society remains a strong voice for its members and the public as she committed to addressing the challenges of employment for lawyers.

"We have challenges in ensuring young lawyers get work opportunities and that is something that we are working on. During my tenure as the VP, we started a mentorship program to ensure they get briefs and I promise to enhance it," Odhiambo said.
