Ruto, the United Democratic Alliance party leader and his deputy are meeting the top party leadership over the impending elections

The party had in December postponed the UDA elections to April 12, staggering them for a week to April 26.

Today's meeting is crucial to decide whether to call off the polls again. There has been a push to cancel the polls again to give room for enough time to adequately prepare for the elections.

Ruto's meeting on Tuesday will also decide on how the polls will be held should a decision be made and if there would be a need to stagger them again.

The party had initially planned to hold elections on December 9 on a single day across the country but the plan was shelved and elections were slated for this April.

"Following a deliberative meeting of UDA 's National Steering Committee chaired by the party leader, President William Ruto, the party has resolved to postpone the scheduled December 9th elections to 12th, 19th and 26th April respectively,'' UDA said in a press release on November 19.
